If your breasts are overly large, they may cause you to feel self conscious or suffer from constant physical irritation — issues that breast reduction can treat. The goal of the surgery is to lessen the size of the breasts by carefully removing excess tissues for smaller and more shapely breasts. Primary plastic surgeon at Briarwood Cosmetic Surgical Center, Dr. Stephen Brown has extensive experience in performing breast reductions for women who have overly large breasts as a result of genetics, pregnancy/childbirth or the aging process. He takes special care to minimize scarring, one of the most common concerns of the procedure.

You’ll probably see an improvement right after your surgery. One of the best features of the breast reduction procedure is just how quickly your results become evident. Almost immediately after recovering from the surgery, you will begin to feel much better, the weight that previously caused physical discomfort having been eliminated. The changes to your figure become obvious right away as well. Once the procedure is complete your profile will become much slimmer as the result of the breasts being brought into proportion with the rest of your figure. In addition, your posture will improve and the pain affecting your chest, neck, back, and shoulders will be reduced almost immediately. For our patients, no other form of cosmetic surgery makes such an immediate difference to how you look and feel, with results that are also long-lasting.
Our patients have a number of reasons to undergo breast reduction, and the most pressing ones are usually physical. If your breasts are very large, you’re probably familiar with the constant, nagging discomfort that comes in the form of back, shoulder, and neck pain. You may also suffer from other forms of irritation, such as bra straps that dig into your shoulders and hurt the skin or rashes that form along the creases of the breasts. The stress that comes from being unable to find clothes that fit you properly is also a concern that the surgery can eliminate. Breast reduction may also improve the appearance of your breasts and overall body contour because it doesn’t just make the breasts smaller, but also reshapes them at the same time.
The body does change over time, though, and the effects of age and gravity will change the appearance of your breasts over the years. Becoming pregnant or gaining/losing a large amount of weight will also have an effect on your appearance. Many women choose to undergo a breast lift in the future in order to compensate for these changes and maintain the fantastic results created by their initial breast reduction.
Liposuction Breast Reduction
Female breast hypertrophy, in which breasts grow excessively, can be treated with breast reduction. While there are several types of surgical techniques that can be performed, the majority of them involve the removal of skin and tissues to reduce breast size. However, some women may find liposuction alone to be sufficient in reducing their breasts to a more desirable size. Liposuction breast reduction is the preferred option for suitable patients for a few reasons:
The only incisions made are for the cannula, which is used to suction the fat out of the body. These normally measure mere milimetres, compared to excision techniques that involve incisions measuring several centimetres to inches.
The resulting scars tend to be far less extensive and are better hidden. With proper care, these scars should fade into faint, silvery lines that you’ll barely be able to see, and will most likely be well hidden by bras or bikinis.
The recovery period is usually shorter because liposuction breast reduction is less invasive. Generally, any side effects of surgery, such as bruising, swelling and discomfort, tend to resolve in about three months or less, at which time you can expect to see the results of your surgery. The recovery period is also less intensive. For more traditional techniques, recovery may take up to a year, during which time a restriction of physical activities is necessary to allow for a proper recovery.
There is no risk of adversely affecting the nipples and areolae.
It tends to be more economical.
Suitable Candidates for Liposuction Breast Reduction
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes unwanted fat. If a woman has excessively large breasts due primarily to fatty tissue, then their breast reduction may involve liposuction only. Interestingly, this technique tends to achieve great results for women over 40 years old, because the breasts develop more fatty tissue with age. (Middle aged women will most likely require a mammogram as part of their pre-surgical assessment).
While some patients find that their breast skin becomes firmer to a certain extent to accommodate the absence of fatty tissue, making liposuction breast reduction suitable for patients with minor sagging, the technique cannot address moderate to severe sagging. As a result, women seeking to correct enlarged and sagging breasts will most likely require the more traditional surgical techniques involving removal of skin and tissues (excision) to better achieve their aesthetic goals.
